Breeding and Strains: Breeding characteristic in Male and Female

Breeding Characteristic you look for in a male and female:
Introduction:
  • This one is a hard one to answer as It changes with the traits your chasing in different strains:
  • I think the best start is to get the best quality male and female u can afford with the traits that you want to breed,
  • This doesn’t mean the most expensive Flowerhorn you see and then you buy it but more so look at what you want to make or the style u wanna go, can u see your goal in the parents ? Does it have the colour or pearl you like ? The shape you like ? The kok you like?
The best thing u can do is ask these questions to yourself:
  • If u can’t see the flaws or your goal in the parents then your simply just breeding, and if that the case....
  • Most people are chasing monster kok and good colour at a minimum.
  • Always check for deformities, if you can see some deformities unless you understand how to correct and if they can be corrected
  • I personally would look at other pairs if you see deformities because it takes 3-4 generations to clear a deformity out of a line.
What not to breed:
  • Beaks
  • Hard kok (in zz and kamfa if possible ck is generally hard)
  • No deformitives
  • Bent spines
  • Lucky fins
In my females:
  • I personally look how there head flows no pronounced nose/beak
  • Short face/nose with there general body shape the females been stocky slender females tend to throw slender fry and don’t look as nice in my opinion but this may vary in your opinion
Research:
  • Good quality parents will make good quality fry
  • Look into the strains you want to breed
  • Research the traits try see the flaws
  • what you want to improve and try find a mate to fix that.
