Buying a Flowerhorn: Value of a Flowerhorn

Value of a Flowerhorn:
  • How much is my fish worth
  • what makes it what value
Before buying or even selling:
  • Learn your traits, I don’t no how to express how important it is to learn your traits. (I don’t no how often I get asked this)
  • It doesn’t give a damn what strain it is or how many are in Australia that determines price, if it ticks its class traits then it’s worth more
Zhen Zhou:
Price guide:
Kok:
  • The bigger the better. The type of kok (Helmet or Balloon)
Colours:
  • The more solid & colorful the better. The more coverage the better especially over kok, the brighter the colour the better
Body and shaping:
  • Thicker with short face the better, but has to have the zz face, that zz body and no deformities.
Finnage & Tail:
  • Balance & proportion, not stretched, trailing fins no breaks in the web between fine spikes this is a deformity
Flowerline and Script:
  • The darker & more shiny pearls surround it the better. It’s not so much about double script either but main centre line has to be solid black
Pearl and it’s kok:
  • Coverage highly increases its value, it’s hard to breed this trait into a line and simply thats what makes it worth more
Kamfa:
Price guide:
Kok:
  • The bigger the better. But usually sit more forward then zz just keep that in mind, it should have a angry face look cause the way a kok sits on kamfa makes there face pout
Colours:
  • The more solid & colourful the better. The more coverage the better especially over kok, the brighter the colour the better
Body and shaping:
  • Thicker with short face the better, but has to have the kamfa face, that kamfa lips completely equal, that kamfa body and no deformities.
Finnage & Tail:
  • Balance & proportion, not stretched, big tail and rounded fins no trailers, no breaks in the web between fine spikes this is a deformity
Script and Flowerline:
  • This can vary in kamfa largely but usually has no flower on kok but it needs to be solid
Pearl and it’s kok:
  • Coverage highly increases its value, it’s hard to breed this trait into a line and simply thats what makes it worth more
Eyes must be sunken:
  • White eyes is ideal, it’s harder to get when breeding, yellow next and red which is common
Fertility:
  • In kamfa it is so hard to find a fertile one so if u can prove its bred.Man you have a winner
I can’t express this more than:
  • Simply put the traits must be correct for its class the more traits ticked the better
  • The harder the traits to make in a line in its class drives the price up someone put a lot of time to make that trait show
Colour and pearl coverage:
  • Regardless of its strain and how many are in Australia doesn’t effect its price, just cause the parents cost a exorbitant price doesn’t determine the price of its fry
Look at its traits and price it accordingly:
  • I’m yet to see a Mp (Masterpiece) produced now and and I think many of the older breeders are disgusted how the prices have gone stupid cause of these imports, that yes some are shinier or bigger kok or coloured different but they aren’t mp’s and lack traits
  • what you pay or what someone paid for it’s grandparents doesn’t determine it’s price,
  • I’m yet to see a fish that I think is worth $1000 or greater unless it’s a MP (Masterpiece) and I haven’t seen one for many years that ticks all the boxes correctly
  • Even the fish at $500 many should be $300 not $500
  • Sad thing is the more people condone the stupid prices the more they will stay up there, culls are worth $100 nowadays cause people think we’ll it’s a Flowerhorn, it’s a import but guys come on this is extortion let’s try fix this shit.
