Breeding and Strains: Pearls and there Class

Pearls and there class:
There are 4 main types of Flowerhorn pearls:
  • Worm pearl
  • Dot pearl
  • Armour pearl
  • Silk pearl
  • As Flowerhorns were bred and changed over time so did there pearls, the worm pearl in my opinion is probably the most desirable, you do get thin or thick worm pearl and even a mixture of the 2.

Dot pearl:
  • Dot Pearl is probably the first pearl in Flowerhorn history that came with the Zhen Zhou’s and is believed to come from Texas and hartweigi when they were crossed in, you can get thin, thick, consistent like a net or inconsistent

Netting Pearls

Worm Pearls

Thin Pearls

Armour pearl:
  • Armour is a more recent type of pearl and its made from patches of pearl as the fish grows it forms a almost armour plate look, this is common when crossing silks to zz or kamfa.

Armour Pearls

Silks:
  • Silks are kept in there own class as there pearls cover the full body no gaps and have a metallic sheen to them, greater the coverage, the shinier they are, the higher quality they are.

Thai Silk

This is not all the types of pearls but it is the most common ones out there you see around, I believe as Flowerhorns are bred there will be more down the track to add.
One that is getting up there now is netting pearl or snake pearls, although rare these are been chased in the hobby and I believe will become more common place, the pearl skims the outline of the scales.
All these pearls can be found on all strains kamfa, zz, malau etc
