Breeding and Strains 4 - Malau/ Kamalau

Malau and Kamalau:

  • The term kamalau in Cantonese actually means golden monkey and this was the name given to that breeders breed
  • It was reclassified as a strain with traits when people started trying to breed the golden monkey after it died and the breeder could not recreate it.
  • later it was separated into malau been zz and kamalau is kamfa malau by my understanding
  • Essentially it is now known zz x Veija of some sort or mix veija= golden monkey

  • The most common trait that separates from the normal strains in both malau or kamalau is growth speed, they grow so slow and take usually 2+yrs to be fertile, this is a Veija trait and they must always have a square gill plate
  • In zz malau it’s a proportion look, so kok was never big balloon style it was always a forward kok that looked equal to body, no mushroom shape to sides like u see in normal zz, they were always larger 35cm+ and the face as the Cantonese name suggests has to have them monkey lips big puffy and short nose, there body have defined muscles down there side.
  • The kamfa malau (kamalau) has to tick the kamfa traits of equal lips but needs the monkey nose pout shape the kok must be neat not balloon or sit forward just a little mushroom on top same way it must be proportional in kamfa malau u still get ck kamfa and king kamfa

King kamfa need full coverage no exceptions:

  • Now here is the spin ..... anyone can breed malau’s it’s down to luck because it’s a shaping trait mainly in face (to look like a monkey), I like to think malau is the feng shui of Flowerhorn (all proportional in body) but essentially u need the base ingredients of Veija blood somewhere in the line
