Breeding and Strains: Being a Breeder
Being a breeder:
- After you have bred batches of Flowerhorn, you can see traits coming through from different parents. A Flowerhorn are hybrid we all have conflicting views on the ultimate traited fish
- The guidelines traits for a strain though are set in stone and need to be researched (zz, tan king, silk, Thai silk, kamfa, king kamfa, malau, etc), but variations in the strains can also be found for eg.
- The old zz has evolved so much over the time it was first made at first we had long stretched bodies of the warships, then can the tear drop as ppl thought head looked better with this shape, then people went to the more now common squarer looking body... this more common body still gets crossed back to old lines or old line traits weren’t culled correctly
- So u have variants such as straight back and arch back, big tail gap and short tail gap, dip fins and flowing fins, trailing fins and not trailing
- Same goes with kamfa, I’m not opening on kamfa..... sick of the stuff that goes along with it, in short if the traits aren’t met u can’t call it a kamfa in my opinion
Same goes to silk and Thai silk, gold base and faders, etc
- Now a breeder have there personal taste and should be able to look at there personal fish and see its flaws or it’s next step ..... in all my fish I see a few things that I want to correct in the next line.
- And now with this view, I look at other people’s fish and critique the same because and a lot of people forget Flowerhorn’s are hybrids and essentially made to ones liking
- Our liking are all different But we all aim to make a 10/10 Flowerhorn
